On the weekend before Christmas we went hiking with Kumar in Parque Altos de Lircay, east of Talca and near the town of Vilches. The weather was cool and cloudy, threatening to rain by evening, but we had a great hike, seeing lots of tarantula-like spiders along the trail and eventually climbing above tree line and above the clouds, opening up towering vistas of the Andes off to the east.We had the trail mostly to ourselves since almost everyone else was at home preparing for the holiday. For us, it seemed that the best way to prepare for Christmas was to be outdoors with our family, enjoying the natural beauty of Chile.
